I have been almost a year working on a new design space(that was only supposed to take 2 months I might add). All of the machines have come back from getting the tune-ups, my supplies are put away, the walls covered in a buttery yellow and the kids are all in school(visual=doing the happy dance). All systems are ready now I just need to create. This of course would mean fabric shopping. Hubby tells me I have more than enough. Ladies, is there every really enough:) I have taken a gander at the new Moda and Michael Miller lines. Ugh. I have to see if I can get the UPS driver to drop my boxes in a hidden location. Well maybe I will just say they are Christmas presents. I shop early so this might be belivable. I know most of you have had that feeling in the pit of your stomache wondering how or where you will hid your latest purchases. (You know who you are) I think I must set a goal of making atleast one new set for each fabric delivery. Now, off to check out the new Free Spirit lines. I will let you know what I find.

Oh I LOVE YouTube!!!

You can find just about anything on YouTube. A quiet observer would more describe me. Until now. I would like to think I am a smart girl with a good head on my shoulders. I have voted(registered independent), written to my local government reps and tried to teach my kids to live morally and responsibly. And look what has happened. I am now becoming part of a movement. A group of people who are sick and tired of just to much. I am tired of this government, federal and state, just taking more and more. When does it stop? I have had enough. When my kids have to go without to pay taxes. Look, I am all for paying my fair share. So should EVERYBODY else! This is my wish list:
(Senators Snowe and Collins are you reading this?)1.No more bailouts/let them fail -my kids can't afford all of this spending!
2.Reform Welfare and Social Security-reward work/effort don't promote laziness.
3.Reform education/End teachers unions-give teachers what they need to do their jobs well, reward their efforts and lets get these kids educated
4.No govern't health care-The govn't hasn't successfully run anything. What makes you thing they can do this!
5.Ban lobbyist-please, do I really need to defend this one?
6.Term limits-none of these jokers are worth more than 2 terms.
7.Flat tax for ALL. Everybody should chip in.
8.No amnesty-get our borders taken care of.
9.Enough with global warming for now-let's get the economy fixed
10.Finally, could we cut budgets. Yes it will sting but it is an important thing to do. Didn't your parents ever teach you that if you want something save your allowance to get it. You can't spend money you don't have. It's worth a quick read:

Dear Mr. President:
During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone. While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"!During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer. And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture", aculture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's selfor, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear. Respectfully, STARNER JONES, MD

It Was Only A Matter Of Time

'til I lost my very own sewing room. My kids are getting bigger and needed their own space. Bye Bye fantastic room. Room painted optimistic yellow. Gone are the days spent amongst the most fabulous collection of fabrics and patterns. Hello dark, uncreative days. Oh, how I long to be locked away in my own little piece of heaven. Alas, don't shed a tear for me yet. Hubby and I have managed to eek out a little space for me which will be converted into a room. Plenty of natural light, storage and space for each of my machines. Oh happy day, happy day! Made for the Haute Couture launch on ebay it was inspired by snowmen, holiday parties and the fun colors. I don't know what I love more about this fabic, the colors or the s'mores? The colors are very fun and festive while the print just screams holiday celebrations. I just have to say thank you to both Monica and Alia for such cute, cute photographs.

What's New

Look at how utterly awesome these photographs are!! I could grocery shop with out a list and come back with everything I had needed. Christmas lists, daily tasks and even birthdays for everyone in my extended family were easy to remember. No one told me that each time you have a child you loose a piece of your mind. You hear stories of love and happiness but none of feeling like you suffer from early onset Alzheimer's. I have 3 beautiful children. With each one my thoughts have gotten more jumbled. My memory is on the fritz. I have days where I feel I am lucky to have remembered to bring all 3 of the kids home from the grocery store let alone all of the things on my list. I have to jot down lists and make little notes to myself to remember play dates and school functions. Pretty soon I am going to be that crazy lady with yellow post-it notes all over the house with no idea what any of them are for. Are my brain cells just in hiding until the kids are grown and the coast is clear? That way I will go into old age without any memories of the full orange juice container spilled on the floor or the full pack of gum left in a pair of jeans that melted all over my clothes in the dryer?

Ladies please tell me is there any hope for my condition?

Here Comes The Sun

I am sorry. Sorry that I have neglected my posting. I have no excuse other than 3 kids out of school during an abnormally rainy summer. Yikes! I have gotten to the point of trying to sew while they demolish the house. I have almost become deaf to the sounds of rough housing and the occasional screams of "MOOOOOM". Thank goodness the sun has finally come out. Right after breakfast it was outside with the beasties. Don't worry, I will let them back in for food but other than that I shant see them until naptime. We all know that they are going to keep on doing what they want no matter what the voters say. They are crazy living in this tainted bubble with no real clue what goes on in the everyday lives of the citizens of this country. I have tried, really tried to behave and not get to political. It can be a really touchy subject. But I think Barbara Boxer has finally pushed me to the point of wanting to get the entire congress thrown out and to start over.
In a clip on the radio this morning she was questioning a Brigadier General. In his response he referred to her as Ma'am. Common military practice. She interrupted him mid-sentence and demanded that she be addressed as Senator because she had worked hard for the title. Are you kidding me??????? I am including a copy of the email that I have sent. Please. If there is anyone out there that finds this ridiculous send a not to her at the link below my note. Feel free to cut and paste my text if you wish.

I have to start by saying that I am a US citizen, woman and voter. I have tried to stay above the fray, treating others with respect and behaving in a dignified fashion. I have been an avid supporter of women in politics. For the first time in my life I am writing to a politician to say you should be ashamed of yourself. To interupt a person speaking, let alone a Brig. General, to correct his address of you is childish, rude and very arrogant. You may have earned the title of Senator my dear but I would be willing to bet not with the same energy and commitment that the man whom you corrected earned his. SHAME ON YOU.

http://boxer.senate.gov/contact/

Video link to Boxer's ego
http://www.breitbart.tv/html/362923.html

This One is for the Boys

Alright, alright. It was all part of the plan to keep on growing my business so that when all 3 kids were finally in school for full days I would have a source of income. Something that would allow me to be at home for them and still maintain my duties in our families "real" business. I am at a point that a new computer is going to be needed. It is also time to start buying those holiday fabrics for this coming season. I know, I know. It seems to early to be thinking of this but it will take me some time to get sets completed. I keep weighing the options. I have to tell you, even though there are times when I want to bang my head on the keyboard because the screen is frozen, I am more tempted and drawn to some of the fantastic lines coming out. This is my wish list: (Senators Snowe and Collins are you reading this?)
1.No more bailouts/let them fail if-my kids can't afford your spending!
2.Reform Welfare and Social Security-reward work not laziness.
3.Reform education/End teachers unions-lets get these kids educated
4.No govrn't health care-The govn't hasn't successfully run anything. What makes you thing they can do this!
5.Ban lobbyist-please, do I really need to defend this one?
6.Term limits-none of these jokers are worth more than 2 terms.
7.Flat tax for ALL.
8.No amnesty-get our borders taken care of.
9.Enough with global warming for now-let's get the economy fixed
10.Finally, could we cut budgets. One thing I came across was a forward from a group member about growing up in the 70's. This led me to stop and ponder my childhood for a minute. How fantastic was that time? Not a care. My sisters and I would ride in the back of my Dad's pickup while eating ice cream. We rode our bikes without a helmet. Not a thought to saturated fats, red dye 40 or to much tv. There were no computers or video games. Saterday mornings were devoted to sitting in front of the tv watching all of the best cartoons. Smurfs, Bugs Bunny, The Muppet Show and Superman(remember the Wondertwins "Wondertwins power-activate)were the cartoons of the day. Lunches would include Wonder bread, Velveeta and marshmallow fluff. In nice weather we were thrown out of the house after breakfast and would not go back in until it was dark. We could wander the woods and investigate along the railroad tracks. Everybody knew who you were in town. The world changed. I know it is all relative. My kids won't have the experience to compare the 70's to the year 2000. That makes it a little easier. They don't know what they are missing. And still, I miss those days and only wish that my children will look back on their youth with the same happiness and sense of security.

Mommies Happy Place

I used to think that I just enjoyed pretty things. Well I do but my emotions run much deeper when it comes to pretty things. It becomes a compulsion to have that fabulous new fabric, newest Pink Fig pattern or SOT embroidery design. Why? In this time of economic uncertainty would I spend money, lots and lots of money, on things that are not essentials? I have one word = KIDS. I have small kids at home. That means that my once clean and organized house is now covered with toys. Everything is either broken, sticky or has crayon on it. My mind spins trying to keep my OCD under control. It can seem somewhat hopeless at times. I ask myself frequently "do the kids really not see the toys and clothing on the floor or hear my voice when I tell them to pick up?".
That is where all of those pretty things come in. With each new fabric, pattern or design I take into my sewing room, I am taken to a place in my mind that is peaceful and serene. The noise stops and my imagination takes over. It is my happy place. When I go there I am in control, thinking of what I will create and the steps it will take to finish the creation. I am at peace. And then the quiet ends with the kids knocking on the door, my youngest with his little face shoved into the crack under the door asking when I am coming out. "Right now baby" is the response and I am off. I open the door to a barage of requests from my two oldest. Reality! And then I am reminded that this too is a happy place as my youngest grabs onto my leg and tells me he loves me.

This is my latest creation. Check out my ebay and etsy stores for more wild little styles.

It Has Been To Long!

How could I be away for so long? I am too! I am just beside myself with disgust over this sorry excuse for a stimulus package. Why do we need a stimulus package. I get it really. Some people just have the philosophy that no one should fail or struggle. In case you can't guess by the tone, I am NOT one of them. I am old school. If you want something, EARN IT. Novel concept I know. I am from a large family. My siblings and relative fall all over the socio-economic scale. I am at the take nothing-earn it yourself end. I have a sibling from the take what I can get end. It is amazing to me how someone could live with themselves. I know there are exceptions out there. I can say with confidence that the majority of the people I know that take governemental assistance don't need it. Now that is not saying that financially they couldn't use help. It is saying that they should get off their lazy hind end and work. Case in point. I have a 20-something nephew that thinks $9 an hour is beneath him. Oh really. Where are the lessons of my grandparents generation? Where is the takecareofyourown-supportyourself mentality? When did hard work become something we should not expect from out children. My kids are all small. They will learn these lessons. I will not be supplying a cell phone, car or credit cards to my children. I know, what a mean mother. I know I am not alone here. There has to be others out there that feel the way I do. To those parents that say no to the materialistic wants of their kids trying to keep up with the Jone's kids I say "YOU ROCK".

Making The World A More Beautiful Place One Ruffle At A Time

It seems like months have gone by since my last post. Like many boutique designers life has been a sort of limbo for the past few months. I am pleased with the changes that have been made so far with the CPSIA laws so far. Let's see what the next few months bring. Personally, I am not in the habit of letting my kids chew on hairbows or boutique clothing but apparently this is a problem elsewhere.
I have more pressing issues on my mind but think they need to be in a seperate post because of the tone it will set. I am glad this is over and hopefully all of the politicians can get back to work. Lord knows that they have been out to lunch when it comes to the new CPSIA laws that will go into effect on February 10, 2009. Look, can somebody please give me a straight answer. I have reached out to many politicians to either be ignored or given a generic response. They work for us don't they? Why does everything have to be so complicated? Why does it take months to make a logical decision? I say we cut the size of government by at least 50%, cut salaries, end lobbying and get back to work. That's my opinion. These new laws will make it impossible for a small company or crafter to sell their products if they are for, or could be used for children 12yrs and under. I know all about making a child's environment safe, I have 3 myself, but this is overkill. I go along for the first few weeks with the best of intentions. At about the 4 week mark it just seems to spiral out of control. The first thing on my list is always to lose weight and get back to my "old" size. Before I had children, those famous words most moms can relate to, I went to the gym everyday, jogged and ate healthy foods. Now, lets just say I have not been able to put on my pre-pregnancy jeans since, well, my pre-pregnancy days. This year my goal will be easier-Be happier.
I want to spend less time being critical of myself and more time enjoying my life. I have great kids, a fabulous husband and am starting a career path that I enjoy. How can complain? So I may not be back in the size 4 jeans this year or ever. That's okay. As long as I feel great I will be keeping this year's resolution. That is a goal in and of itself. So, Happy New Year to me! Here's to a new attitude.

P.S. Side note: I also want master Photoshop Elements. Can I do this without wanting to throw the laptop? Let's see how that goes.

Buckle Up Baby We're In For A Bumpy Ride

Well it has been 5 days since Christmas and we have finally finished cleaning up the wreckage. After a 3 day holiday blitz of parties and celebrations the kids are finally coming down off of the sugar high. Re-entry has been a little rocky but we are getting there. From Christmas cookies to m&m's my kids have had it all. Throw in the excitement of the gatherings and gifts and we are on full scale red alert. The first two days were the worst. I actually felt bad for my 5yr old. Seriously, he just couldn't get himself under control (or keep his hands to himself). My oldest chose to avoid the chaos by spending all of her time trying to find homes for all of her newest treasures. The 4yr old, well lets just call him the moving target in this story. Although, I should let it be know that he is in no way the victim in this and many times the mastermind behind it all. Five days after Christmas I can say that routine, balanced diet, rules, and bedtimes are all a mommies best friends!

Naughty or Nice?

Okay, I know 3 days before Christmas may be a little late in the game to pose this question to Santa. Really, can someone answer me one question? Will I get on the naughty list for pelting the kids with snowballs?
Wait, I can explain. I have been sick for a week, it has been snowing all weekend and now I am out shoveling 14 inches of snow. There is no school because of the holidays. The kids are out with me. I did not throw the first snowball. As a matter of fact I did not throw the first 3. I warned 'em. Then mommy went snowball crazy.....anyone see the snowball fight in the movie "Elf"?
They are okay. I only connected on a few. I got them in and gave them hot chocolate. So all is right in the world.
I must finish by saying that it felt GREAT! But alas, I have been at home prepping the house for the holidays. I feel as though I have been doing this for weeks. I tried to pace myself. I wrapped gifts as I bought/made them. I kept the commitments to the kids schools down to a minimum and I still am racing to the finish line. Well, Christmas eve anyway. My Mother's moto holds true here: "I was so far behind I thought I was first".
I will be better at keeping in touch I promise. Every weekday I trek with my daughter out to the bus stop. One morning we are out with sweatshirts and sneaks and the next we are out in full on protective outerwear. I am not ashamed to say I embarrass my daughter. I go out with hat, scarf, mittens and dare I say it, ski pants. My life has come full circle. My daughter is now asking me to stay back with that same look on her face that I used to have. Now, this plea for composure is met with okay honey, as I jump and yell to her as she gets on the bus. Only 5 more months until the weather is warm enough to get out of the winter gear.......Sorry Honey.

What It Means To Me

What am I thankful for? Grab a snack this could take a while.
Well, of course it goes without saying that I am thankful for my health. I have 5 siblings and have health issues. I am perfectly health, maybe not always sane, but healthy none the less. I am so thankful that my vision is perfect. Could you imagine? A world without color. Makes my soul hurt just thinking about it. I am forever grateful that I have the people in my life that I do. My spouse, kids, family and my friends, these people are the absolute perfect people for me. I love them all so much I could burst into tears. I am truly blessed to have them to love. Now, with that out of the way.
I am sooo thankful for electricity. Yup, shallow I know, but think of life without it. Yeah, I know! No internet, online friends, groups, shopping, no more embroidery machine.
Indoor plumbing is right there with electricity. I don't think I need to add anything to that.
I am thankful for the belief that I am a part of something bigger. I am not alone in this and that, no matter how bleak things seem, this too shall pass.

I am most thankful for knowing each and every day that I am loved. Do children have selective listening? Is there a range that they can hear? I know they can hear me yell and I KNOW they can hear what my husband and I are whispering about. It must be the "inside" voice that they can't hear. I know I have said "don't run in the house" or "pick up your rooms", even the occasional "shut the refridgerator door". I know they are well mannered. I know they can speak English. So what gives? After observing these creatures in the wild(inside preschool on a rainy day), my conclusion would be yes, they do have selective listening. As I walk into the school, to the best behave bunch of kids ever, I am alarmed by the noise and feel there must be a riot and rush in for fear of the teachers safety. First I check for the teachers, yup all there and accounted for, Safe. Now the kids....OH, every toy, crayon and piece of playdough is out and they are having a ball. In my quest to make the world a more beautiful place I have found yet another fun and fabulous way to make my life more colorful. Digital scrapbooking. Now let me say that I have boxes full of scrapbooking supplies that I purchased when my kids were born but just never got into it. All of the time, clean-up and space took the fun out of it. Now with digital scrapbooking supplies I can keep them in a nice little folder, change sizes and colors, and if I don't like a layout I am just one keystroke from making it just a memory. (Not to mention I get the closet space back). Let me not forget that my real interest in these delightful supplies comes from blogging and starting my own children's clothing business. I am always on the look out for eye catching images and graphics. Digital scrapbooking fits the bill. The community is very friendly and there are hundreds of fabulous tutorials to help a newbie like me get going. So go, creative souls, and check out digital scrapping. A great place to start would be in today's favorite place taylormade-designs.

Pick Me, Pick Me!!!!

I would really love to be the winner of a fabulous custom made camera strap cover by Priddy Creations Custom Designs. I Thought I would Never Get This Working

Is it me or did computers actally make life that much more complicated? Don't get me wrong, I would be lost with out my laptop and the connection to the outside world that it provides. I can shop, research things and communicate with family all with a push of a few buttons. My troubles all started with this "simple" blog kit. Oh, one look at this online and I knew I had to have it. Easy to follow instructions, yup, I am in. In less than 5 minutes files received and saved. Now the fun part, building the blog. And the chaos ensued. Four hours later the kids have wrecked the house, the cat has not been fed and I am still in my pajamas but the blog is done. I can't believe it. I actually figured this out. Fifty plus error messages later and I have a fabulous new look for my blog. I hope you all enjoy the new look.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://littlewildthings.blogspot.com/2008/11/finally-i-thought-i-would-never-get.html' title='Finally. How is a girl supposed to make pretty things when she can't get the pretty supplies? Yeah, yeah, there was a stimulus check. What, are you kidding me? That was here and gone in a flash. As a matter of fact it went right back to pay taxes because that darned tax bracket is a killer. See, the thing is, the Hub and I are small business owners. Oh, and we are incorporated. Yup, thats right, I am rich. Wait a minute........No, I am not. We are on a budget, live in a modest house, drive older cars, struggle with bills and try to put a little away every month for the kids college educations. Huh,
While I am on the subject, let me ask you one thing. Why do people who don't pay taxes get money back? I know a couple of folks that have gotten a few thousand back and don't pay taxes. Why can't we all just pay the same percentage? When did it become socially acceptable to be on welfare, get food stamps and heating assistance? Don't get me wrong, I am willing to help those in need. I just want those helped to really be in need. Help yourself before you expect help from others.
This blog is so much better than therapy. I feel so much better already. So back to my original thought........fabric or presents? Oh, and the fabrics that are coming this season. I just may have to tell the kids that Santa called and he won't be able to make it this year. Mommy needs more fabric. And don't forget patterns, buttons and trims. With each new line of fabric came a flood of new creations just dying to come to life. For some the holidays are the best time of year. An hour in a toy store with 3 kids 8 and under is long enough. Thankfully my kids are were rested, had a snack and relatively calm. The trip went well.
Some of the usual suspects topped the list for my kids. Barbie and Little Pet Shop are annual favorites. For the boys it was all about Star Wars. Ships, figures and lightsabers were at the top of the boys lists. As I have followed the updates on Stephanie's sisters blog I have been been even more overwhelmed with hope, hope for a miracle. Hope for the full recovery of 2 good parents who are needed in this world by their children, family, friends, and all the rest of us who are complete strangers to them. Because they are good, kind people, who deserve another chance at life. I've seen the ebay boutique community come together to help people in need many times over the last few years. I think it's because we are all mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends and it's in our divine nature to want to serve others. We become better people ourselves as we give freely and willingly to those we love and to those we don't even know. This launch is scheduled for November 1st and will last 2 weeks. That way everyone has time to come up with something awesome so we can raise as much money as possible to their recovery. You can donate 100% or a portion of your sales. Whatever is comfortable to you. All I want to do is add a funky background to this blog. Is that to much to ask? I would like to think of myself as a fairly smart girl. I manage money, run the administrative side of the family business and have a growing custom boutique business. So why is it that this eludes me?
I have followed directions, improvised and even had to start from scratch and still end with an error message. Some people dream of monsters, falling or being chased. I will wake in the middle of the night, having cold sweats to an error message blinking in my head. I give up. Maybe tomorrow.............

So Much Fabric, Sew Little Time

What is a girl to do? There are so many fabulous lines of fabric coming out right now. From Farmers Market to S'mores. All of those colors and textures. I am so excited about all of the possibilites. Skirts, dresses and bags are just the tip of the creative iceberg. How do others find their inspiration? I usually let the fabric speak to me. I can hear what it is saying. "I would like to be a twirl skirt" or "Please make me into a trapeze top". Everything I make starts as a vibe.
